Greetings!

We will be going to Children’s Rescue Center and King’s Arm’s Academy, an orphanage and school built after the third civil war in Liberia. Our friend Whitney Walstra lived there for several years developing the school and transitioning it to nationals. She can testify how the children have been transformed over time as they went from the stoned-looks of children who had seen too much from war to ones that could love and laugh. There are many children for too few adult workers. Whitney has formed strong bonds with many of the children and some of the adults. We are continuing the relationship she and a few others started, working and living alongside our brothers and sisters in Christ while learning in a different culture.

I, Kristi, went to Liberia back in 2010, first year Whitney took a group. I fell in love with several of the children and have wished to return to see them. When we got married, I wanted Dia to come back and experience it with me and hopefully fall in love, too. I, Dia, want to go not just because my wife wants me to go, but because I want to experience another culture besides America and to help people in need. We want to contribute to the partnership that has been started and build strong bonds with the people there.

While were are there we have several focuses. First and foremost we want to encourage and love on the children and adult workers of the orphanage, being a living example of Jesus’s love. Second, there will be a teacher training. We will have a reading program with a trip to the beach as an incentive. Additionally, we will continue a recent outreach to the Peter Sayklon Orphanage Home in a nearby community. Further on our agenda is a movie night with popcorn and cleaning the library. Lastly, we also want to invest in and serve the adult workers with game and prayer nights, cooking and candy making lessons, and off-campus dinners.

Please partner with us in prayer. Pray for travel mercies and good health. Team unity. That we can encourage our Liberian brothers and sisters. That we will learn and be challenged by them. That we will clearly demonstrate God’s love for them. That we will all hear God’s call on our lives and that He desires our hearts.

Thank you. May the Lord bless you.
